Satellite News Gathering (SNG)

At the heart of Cogent Technologies product portfolio are the ‘NanoSat’, ExpresSat’ and ‘MobiSat’ range of Ku-band flyaway, fly-drive and vehicle-based DSNG terminals. Cogent Technologies highly popular NanoSat series of motorized, auto-acquisition, terminals have been deployed at countless news events throughout the globe. Packing into just 2x IATA-sized transit cases, and being capable of deployment by just 1 person in under 10 minutes, the NanoSat has proven to become a product of choice for broadcasters who need to travel quickly and provide quality SD/HD transmissions with minimal equipment.

Cogent Technologies ExpresSat and MobiSat systems are ideal for applications where larger ‘full feature’ redundant DSNG flyaway terminals / vehicle terminals are required. Cogent Technologies is able to offer a choice of dedicated IP/data terminals, DVB-S/S2 video/audio terminals, or hybrid ‘IP/data + video over IP’ solutions.

Bonded Cellular

Until recently an experimental technology, ‘Bonded Cellular’ systems, which use multiple data carrier services (via a series of “bonded” cellular data cards) to send video/audio, are now a ‘must have’ for many broadcasters. Cogent Technologies ‘CamCaster’, ‘BodyCaster’ and ‘MotoCaster’ bonded cellular products both have the ability to encode and transmit SD or HD broadcast-quality video directly over LTE, 4G, 3G, Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections from locations that can be impractical and/or uneconomical for coverage with traditional sports production equipment. The systems also feature internal memory to enable ‘store and forward’ transmission in situations where network coverage is insufficient for live transmission at the camera location.

Wireless Camera Systems

Cogent Technologies ‘CamLite-HD’ wireless camera system is a cost-effective solution designed to address the need for a professional wireless RF camera system at a price level more suited to the latest generation of compact HD cameras. Operating in the unlicensed 2GHz/5GHz frequency bands, the CamLite-HD is a ‘plug and play’ system that offers multi-format SD/HD transmission over distances up to 150m. Equipped with both SDI and HDMI receiver video outputs, the CamLite-HD is ideally suited as a cost-conscious solution to providing a reliable link from a camera/journalist location to a nearby DSNG flyaway/vehicle terminal.

Cellular Diversity

Cellular diversity is a technology used in conjunction with the DVB-T digital modulation scheme. Cellular diversity techniques generally increase the signal availability and operational range of a mobile microwave link system (such as an airborne downlink or a wireless radio camera system) through the deployment of multiple receive antennas. Cogent Technologies is able to offer cellular diversity receive antenna systems with up to 12 channels of diversity.

Telecoms

Businesses and service providers operating in today’s ‘global village’ are more-and-more frequently finding it necessary to provide two-way connectivity to/from remote locations and their ‘office HQ’. These remote locations are often far away from any fixed communications network.

Often a reliable, high speed (2Mb/s+) ‘VPN’ connection to the office is required for server connection, e-mails, voice calls, etc. In some instances it is also necessary to have a high quality live video connection.

This increasing demand for higher data rates has created a need for portable satellite terminals for temporary deployment and with a greater capacity than a traditional 64kb/s-128kb/s ‘VSAT’ terminal. Cogent Technologies ‘NanoSat’ terminal is ideally suited to this requirement. Offered with a choice of proprietary IP modems to match all of the popular brands of hub station terminals, the NanoSat is a highly portable, medium power, auto-acquisition Ku-band flyaway terminal that is suitable for transportation as ‘hand carry’ luggage on a commercial flight in just 2x IATA compliant transit cases.

Another useful feature of the NanoSat is the optional ‘fly/drive’ option of mechanics. An ‘add-on’ option for the NanoSat, these mechanics enable the NanoSat to be mounted temporarily onto the roof of a suitable car or van to create a temporary vehicle-mounted terminal.

In some cases it is important to provide real-time two-way communication whilst ‘on the move’ – for example, to/from a vehicle being used for gas exploration. In such circumstances Cogent Technologies is able to offer our ‘LFD Series’ of ‘Satcom On The Move’ (SOTM) Ku-band motorized panel antennas, available in sizes up to 0.9m and offering data rates up to 2Mb/s+, depending upon terrain, satellite footprint, satellite performance etc.
